“I don’t hope that you’re happy
I don’t wish you the best
I don’t want you to find peace or love or any success
And so what if I’m bitter
About the bridges you burned
The privilege of pettiness is a privilege I’ve earned…”
– Dear Daria
Anyone who knows me is aware I’m always down to clown and ready to do it for the story.
This past summer, I participated in a music video shoot at The Lab at Convergence in Alexandria, VA for the band Dear Daria… and the finished product is my kind of foolishness. I dusted off some long unused acting skills and played to the cheap seats for this insanely catchy tune, packed with the kind of petty lyrics heartbreak earns.
Fun fact: Maryjo Mattea (the lead singer of Dear Daria) was once part of a band called Two Dragons, One Cheetah. I designed the band logo, a loving riff on the DC flag. Later, MJ tattooed the mark on her body, which was a HUGE, humbling honor.
Check out the video for “(I Don’t) Hope That You’re Happy” below, beautifully directed by Mitchel Worley of mwfilms.
